The "Peace One Day" Street Festival gave Dayton a chance to celebrate peace with the world! Look forward to 2008!

The second annual “Peace One Day” Street Festival, was held at Courthouse Square in Dayton on Friday, September 21. It featured bands, folksingers, speakers, vendors, and other activities for children and adults. For more information, go to www.DaytonCityOfPeace.org or call 937-22-PEACE.

“Peace One Day” is celebrated worldwide on September 21 each year as the U.N.-designated day for international cease-fire and worldwide peacemaking. The “Dayton: City of Peace” initiative’s six-week celebration will culminate in the “Peace one Day” Street Festival where music and speakers will celebrate the vision of peace in our communities and the world.

WYSO’s Niki Dakota served as MC for the celebration which included many entertainers and speakers. On stage entertainment included the band Sleepybird, singer/songwriter Donal Hiney, Tanner, Universal Dances of Peace, The Steven Gregory Band, and Folksinger Patrick Coffey.

On stage speakers included Dr. Rod Kennedy of the First Baptist Church in Dayton, the Dayton Martin Luther King Essay Contest winners.

There were also children’s activities, games, and art, plus tours of the Peace Museum’s Martin Luther King exhibit in the PeaceMobile, peace merchandise vendors, non-profit organization exhibits, food and drink vendors, as well as the Peace Museum’s mascot, “Big Dove.”
